James Cain is the Unit Leader of the U.S. Geological Survey, New Mexico Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and Affiliate Professor in FWCE. James received a B.S. from Colorado State University, an M.S. from California State University, Sacramento, and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. James did his postdoctoral work at the Center for African Ecology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa and worked as an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University-Commerce prior to starting with the New Mexico Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit.
Dr. Cain’s research interests are primarily in wildlife-habitat relationships, population ecology, foraging ecology, and the influence of management practices on native wildlife species. Dr. Cain’s work addresses both basic and applied questions related to wildlife ecology, conservation and management, with an emphasis on large mammals in arid and semi-arid environments.
